UPDATE: All Posts from 7 – 11 June 2015

I’m really starting to enjoy these busy weeks. Wednesday was particularly exciting. Not only did I start my new job at Bustle, but my former professor emailed me to say that our presentation on a digitized archive of information on the imagist poet H.D. was accepted into the H.D. and Feminist Poetics conference being held at Lehigh University in September.  You can now view my GoFundMe campaign in the sidebar.

SUMMER COCKTAILS FOR NATIONAL NAME YOUR POISON DAY

Monday was Best Friends Day, Body Hair Day, and National Name Your Poison Day. In honor of the latter, I compiled this list of delicious summer cocktails for LadyClever‘s Local L.A. section. If you decide to use any of these recipes, let me know how they turn out.

The History of White People: A Review

While I don’t entirely agree with Nell Irvin Painter’s decision to title her book as such, The History of White People is a fantastic look into the construction of race over time. It provides insight into the origins of the many racist myths that exist to this day, which Painter counters with subtle snark. Check out my review, then go and get yourself a copy.

ARMIKROG COMING TO E3, RELEASE DATE REVEALED, PREORDER INFO ON STEAM

This was a pretty cool piece of info I got from Twitter. I didn’t even know the Earthworm Jim team had a new game in the works. Armikrog looks pretty sweet. Check out all the details here.

10 CLASSIC VIDEO GAMES YOU CAN SHARE WITH YOUR KIDS

I’ve had this article written for a while, but I didn’t have anywhere to pitch it. Because it deals heavily with last-gen gaming, the time to publish it was running out. It’s your basic slideshow-slash-listicle, but I think it turned out well.

BLOODSTAINED ADDS AMANO ARTWORK AS STRETCH GOAL

I’m not a huge Castlevania fan, but this had me really excited. I love Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork, and I respect the high level of attention paid to Koji Igarashi’s latest project. Since this article went live, Bloodstained has become the most successful video game Kickstarter ever, bringing in over $4.25 million.

How to Start a Blog

This post also got a lot of traffic this week. In the last few weeks, I’ve been asked where to begin blogging several times. This is just a guide to help you get started.

10 LITERARY CHARACTERS YOU’LL MEET IN COLLEGE

This was my first article for Bustle. I wrote it months ago, as part of my edit test for the magazine. Now it is live for your reading pleasure. Which of these characters were you most like in college?

DESTINY BRINGS ELIMINATION TO STANDARD PVP

In the new Trials of Osiris game mode, Destiny players participated in a brand-new PvP game type: Elimination. That game mode is now available for a limited time as an everyday multiplayer playlist. Enjoy it while it lasts.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING PLAYER THROWS TOURNAMENT, SELLS RARE CARD FOR NEARLY $15K

The tournament incident made waves in the Magic: The Gathering community, but what happened next was a slow burn. I wrote this article more than a week after Pascal Maynard participated in the Top 8 in Las Vegas, and only one day after his successful eBay auction ended.

8 Life Lessons from Anne of Green Gables

This is my second Bustle article, the other half of my initial edit test. I originally wrote this right around the time that Jonathan Crombie, who famously portrayed Gilbert Blythe in the 1985 Anne of Green Gables telefilm, died. The article went live yesterday, only a few days after the announcement that CBC was making a new version of their made-for-TV movie, to air in 2016.
